A Young Boy’s Decision

READ : 2 Chronicles 34:1-8

Boys and girls, I hope you paid close attention to the Bible story, because it was about a boy names Josiah, who became king of Judah when he was only eight years old. More importantly, he “did what was right in the eyes of the Lord.” So, Josiah shows us that obeying God and seeking Him are not things you must “put off” or wait to do until you are older.

Josiah made a firm decision to seek God. This reminds us that a strong spiritual life doesn’t happen by accident. It’s not like at school, where you enjoy some subjects and maybe you do well in them, but, in some other subjects you find it more difficult to get a good grade. A strong spiritual life might better be compared with being in the band or on an athletic team. To be in those organizations, you must make a decision and a commitment. Then, the more you practice, the more you will learn and the more skillful you will become. Like Josiah, we must make a decision to seek God, and to do what is right as He has revealed it to us.

No matter what your age, I urge you to do as Josiah did. Remember, too, that God blesses those who love Him and are committed to Him. You have everything to gain by turning your life over to Christ.

Father, thank You for loving children and young people as much as You love adults. Help us to seek You always. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
