READ : Haggai 1:1-8
We usually spend time, energy and money on things we consider to be precious. But, it’s also possible to begin investing time, talents, and money into certain things, and then discover that those things have gradually become very important.
In this revival under Haggai, God wanted to lead His people from that first situation to the second. Fifteen years had passed since the people were freed from their captivity in Babylon, and God’s house was still in ruins. They excused themselves by saying that the time was not “right” for rebuilding. They deceived themselves into thinking that they would soon get started with the work.
Then God sent Haggai with this question: “Is it a time for you to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?” God wasn’t jealous because they had nicer houses than He did. No, God saw that His people needed revival, because they no longer cared about their relationship with Him. That’s why God wanted them to rebuild His house.
If we want revival to come into our lives, we need to think about where our hearts are. Have our homes or our recreational activities left us with little time, energy or money for the work of God’s kingdom? Is God asking you . . . and me . . . “Is it time?”
Holy Spirit, open our eyes so that we might see if our treasures, and our hearts, are where they should be. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
