Love Rooted in God

John Muller

READ : John 3:13-21

Our emphasis this month is on love, since our 50th wedding and ordination anniversaries are in 1994-5. Love should always characterize both marriage and ministry.

When we want to speak or think about love, we need to begin with God, who is love. What better verse in the Bible can we find than the famous one, John 3:16: “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” (niv).

This has often been called “The Gospel In a Nutshell.” It is probably the best verse that you can use in witnessing to the basic truth of the gospel. It describes the way God demonstrated His love for a wayward and sinful world. It also tells us that salvation is available to “whoever believes in Him.” I made the commitment to Christ early in life, and thus experienced God’s love personally.

It was on Valentine’s Day in 1942, while leading a Bible study in the Fellowship Club in Holland, MI, that I first met “Sunny” Heil. In a short time love blossomed between us, which has kept us in harmony for more than 53 years. We have a common bond in the love of Christ. Lives that are rooted in God’s love and engaged in Christian service daily will blend together, and find joy and happiness in the service of the King.

Thank You, Lord, for showing us Your love by sending Your Son. May His love be seen in our lives today. In His name.
