Fun Day

August appears to be a month without a designated special day to celebrate on a national level. No Hallmark sales pitches. There’s no national holiday or sentimental remembrance day. I suppose there could be a “Begin Hay Fever Season” Day. Part of our Christian personality is a sense of humor, the ability to have fun, the joy in laughter. The Bible recommends having a “merry heart.” We have word pictures of Miriam dancing in praise and the angels rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents. Genesis 21 tells of Sarah laughing, having a good time about her new son Isaac. One wonders if Jesus was injecting a bit of humor when He told of a camel going through the eye of a needle.

So, let’s make today a Summer Fun Day. Suggest ideas. What about composing some limericks:

A teacher in our Sunday School
Loved the story of the talking mule,
She’d get to the talk
When the creature would balk
And promptly fall off from her stool.

Try Trivial Pursuit: Name three nouns in the Bible beginning with “F.”

Try a Relay Time: Each team is given an unopened map. Whoever refolds it to the original shape gets the prize.

Creator of fun, Thank You for one day out of seven to be different. Amen.
