Do Not Worry

Steven Laman

READ : Matthew 6:25-34

Worrying, we all do it! Whether it is worrying if we are going to be on time for church or whether we are going to have a job next year, worrying comes so naturally for us humans.

I am a world-class worrier! One of my biggest worries is about my future. Since I am disabled, I can’t just get a job at McDonald’s or at a gas station. I go to college, but it will take years for me to get any kind of degree. What will become of my life? I don’t know. It would be great if I could see into my future, but I can’t. All I can do is trust my God for my future.

Jesus commands us not to worry. Jesus tells us to look at nature, at the birds of the air and the lilies of the field. In other words, He is saying, “I made this whole world, and can’t I care for the most important part, My children?”

Looking at nature does help me not to worry so much. When I look at the sky and the mountains, I am reminded that God can care for the big situations in my life. Then I look down at the ground and see tiny little ants, and I am reminded that He is concerned with even the little hairs that fall off my head (Luke 12:7). Will you join me in trying to follow Jesus’ command not to worry, and trust in our God who made the whole universe?

Lord, help us to follow Your command not to worry, and forgive us when we fail. In Christ. Amen.
