Let Your Light Shine

READ : Matthew 5:2-16

I live a mile and a half from a local community college. When I took classes, I used my electric wheelchair to travel there from home and back again. On my way, I passed by a Korean Evangelical Church. One day, I noticed that workmen were digging the footings for a new sanctuary.

As weeks turned into months, they gradually progressed farther and farther with their building. Once, when I was coming back from a class, I saw a worker nailing a large bronze cross on the highest point of the building. I stopped for a few minutes, and joy filled my heart. I thought, “What a great witness that cross will be to generations who pass by a witness to the faith of the people who built that church.”

As Christians, we should be like that cross, giving witness to our faith in Christ. Jesus said, “Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put in on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house” (Matt. 5:15).

We need to be visible, just like the cross on the highest part of that church, so we can help people see that Jesus is the light of the world. We shouldn’t hide our Christianity. Instead, we should put it in the forefront of our lives. Come on, let’s let our light shine before all people.

Father, help us never to hide Your light under a bushel, but to let it shine before all. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
