READ : Exodus 13:20-22
On my computer keyboard, I have a keyguard. A keyguard is a piece of plastic that has holes for each of the keys. It sits just above the keys. The keyguard guides my wooden dowel as I type, so I just hit one key at a time. If I didn’t have my keyguard, I would hit several keys at once. It would be almost impossible for me to type a single word. My plastic keyguard acts like a guide that makes it possible for me to type.
God guided the children of Israel through the desert to the promised land with a cloud and a pillar of fire. Does God guide us today? He certainly does! We are not being guided with a cloud or with fire, but by His Spirit. “But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all truth” (John 16:13a). There are many ways that the Spirit guides us. He guides us as we are witnessing by bringing the right words to mind. He helps us when we read the Bible by bringing meaning to what we read. Also, He guides us through the advice of Christian friends.
If I type without my keyguard, I have to work much harder, and I get frustrated because I always hit the wrong keys. When I have my guard on, my typing goes a lot easier. It is the same with our lives. If we follow the Spirit’s leading, then it will go much better than if we try to live our lives without a guide.
God, guide us in our lives by Your Holy Spirit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
