A Hope for the Future

READ : Jeremiah 29:4-14

Sometimes I feel like the author of Ecclesiastes when he wrote,”`Meaningless! Meaningless!’ says the Teacher. `Utterly meaningless! Everything is meaningless’” (Eccl. 1:2). I often feel this way when I think about my future. I completed a year of college credits, but because I can only take one or two classes a semester, it took me three years. And if I go back to finish, will there be any job opportunities for me?

Sometimes I even fall into a state of depression. Once when I was in that state, the Holy Spirit brought God’s promise in Jeremiah to mind. I hold on to that promise when it seems as if life is going nowhere. The God who made the whole universe has plans to give each of us a hope and a future!

God is not only the God of the universe, but He loves us like a loving father. Jesus gives us a comparison of how much God loves us. He said, “If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him!” (Matt. 7:11). I am in awe that the God of the universe loves me and has a plan for me. If you are like me, you don’t always feel as if He has a plan for you. But, He does! We have to trust in what He says in His Word. He has a plan to give us a hope and a future.

Father in heaven, help us to believe that You have good plans for our future. In Your Son’s name. Amen.
