READ : Hebrews 13:1-8
This day in Canada is Remembrance Day, and in the United States, it’s Veterans Day. It is good to show gratitude for the many people who have sacrificed so much for us. Many churches have also just celebrated All Saints Day. In our congregation on this day we remember with thanksgiving those members who have died within the past year. We are also invited to remember and give thanks to God for others whom we have known and loved.
Each of us has people who come to mind individuals who have served as role models to us perhaps. I often think of “Mrs. Edith” who served as a model for all of our family for so many years. She was devout, talented, helpful, attractive and a Christian lady in every way. In addition, our friend “Mrs. Edith” continually lived Paul’s directive to “encourage one another and build each other up” (1 Thess. 5:11). We will always be grateful for her life.
We all know Christians who have influenced us for good. The author of the book of Hebrews says we are surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses (see Heb. 12:1,2). Take time today to think of someone no longer living who played an important part in your life and be thankful.
For all the saints who from their labors rest, Who Thee by faith before the world confessed, Thy Name, O Jesus, be forever blest. Alleluia! Alleluia!” Amen.
