Eyewitness Accounts

READ : Luke 1:1-7

Luke, a medical doctor, who was probably the only non-Jew to write a book of the Bible, made a careful investigation of the facts before he wrote. He gleaned information from eyewitnesses who were on the scene when Jesus lived. He provides us with the most informa- tion regarding the events which took place preceding the birth of Jesus. Our Christian faith has a solid historical basis. We know about the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus in the same way we know about George Washington or any other historical person. Eyewitnesses, such as Matthew and John, or others, like Mark or Luke, who carefully gathered information from eyewitnesses, wrote down the facts. Luke claims to be especially careful in gathering his information.

Luke tells us that God began the preparation for the coming of His Son by choosing a person to get people ready for this great event. As often happens, God begins to work in the lives of parents. A priest named Zechariah had a wife named Elizabeth. They were godly people. God is looking for godly people to carry out His saving purposes. Are you such a person? What needs to change in your life so that you can be more useful to God? The world needs people of integrity today, role models, examples of godly living! Will you be such a person?

Father, change me so that You can use me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
