Wise Men Worship

READ : Matthew 2:7-12

The wise men “rejoiced exceedingly with great joy” (v. 10) at the prospect of meeting this newborn king. Let us rejoice at every opportunity we have to meet with Christ. Such a meeting can be a very real experience, since Jesus has promised that where two or three people are gathered in His name, He is there. That means that when we attend worship services, we can meet Christ. Is that the attitude with which you go to worship or are you critical or indif- ferent. Our worship services may not be all we would like them to be. But that is beside the point. Go expecting to meet Jesus and you will.

What were the wise men expecting? They were looking for a newborn king. They would expect to find Him in a palace, dressed inroyal robes, but to their credit, they did not back off because he was in a peasant’s house in ordinary baby clothes. In spite of this, these important men fell down and worshiped Jesus. And worshiping, they gave gifts. Do you think of the offering as necessary to pay the church’s expenses or do you see it as an act of worship, a way of expressing, as the wise men did, your amazement at the Gift of God, Jesus Christ. WISE MEN STILL WORSHIP. It is sad that there are so many people today who think they are wise because they are highly educated, yet neglect worship.

Father, may people, whether educated or not, see that true wisdom is found only in Jesus Christ. In His name. Amen.
