The Choice

READ : Luke 4:14-30

The passage of Scripture Jesus read to the crowd in the synagogue pointed to the coming of God’s Messiah who would bring salvation to His people. When Jesus said, “Today this scripture is fulfilled in your hearing,” everyone there understood. They knew Jesus was claiming to be the Messiah, the Son of God. And that they did not expect! A prophet, they expected! A healer, they expected! A great moral teacher, they expected! But the Messiah? The Son of God? Not Joseph the carpenter’s boy!!

The townsfolk of Nazareth faced a choice. They could believe Jesus or call Him a fraud. They could receive Him as Lord or run Him out of town. They could accept Him or reject Him. There were no other choices. They chose to reject Jesus! Matthew tells us that “he did not do manymiracles there because of their lack of faith” (13:58). Because they rejected Him, they limited Him and it was their loss!

Each one of us must make a decision about Jesus. What will you decide? If you decide He was a fraud, dismiss Him from your thoughts. If you decide He was a crazy man, persuade others to dismiss Him from their thoughts because there is already too much lunacy in our world. But if you decide He is who He says He is God’s Son and your Savior bow down and worship Him!

Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God and accept You as the One who saves me from my sin. Thank You. Amen!
