Hungering and Thirsting for God

Isaiah 42:1-9

The beginning of a truly awesome spiritual journey starts with a real hunger to know God. The knowledge of God comes in many forms and to each individual quite uniquely.

However, there are some basic requirements to develop a relationship with our Creator. The Bible is a collection of God’s love letters, admonitions and commands and is the staple we need to feed on daily. There is no better way to develop our spiritual life than by allowing the Bible to speak to us individually as we open it and ask God to reveal Himself to us. Prayer is another key opening us to the heart of God.

In a marriage we seek to please our mate. So too in our relationship with God we should seek to please Him and seek His will for our lives. I used to think of prayer as an opportunity to ask the Lord for many things including intercession for others, but as I’ve grown in my prayer life I realize it’s more important to discover what God wants from me. I seek to know God’s desires and I want to become that child of God in whom He takes great delight. Like our physical appetites, the more we eat, the more we want to eat. So too we will find that the more we read our Bible, pray and meditate, the more we will desire to increase that time with our Lord.

Father, may we truly make You proud of us, through the power of Your Spirit. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
