A Matter of the Heart

READ : Genesis 2:18-24

Today is Valentine’s Day. I would like to dedicate this meditation especially to singles who are seeking a lasting love relationship. Let’s observe what the world calls love, an attraction to a handsome face, a beautiful body. There is a shallowness to what the world looks at: the external self. Not much emphasis is placed on a person’s inner beauty; consequently, deep lasting love relationships are not prevalent in our society.

In keeping with our theme of seeking first the Kingdom of God, real love is developed first in our relationship to God. He desires a love relationship with us. He longs for us to share our innermost desires with Him and in turn to share His heart’s desires for us. God is the perfect match maker. In Genesis, we read how God created woman suitable for the man. We need to earnestly pray for God’s direction in selecting that suitable mate, and it is only through establishing that true love relationship with our Savior that we can even attempt to exemplify the love we find in 1 Corinthians 13. A true love relationship between a man and a woman is one of the greatest gifts God has given to us. We need to rely on our heavenly Father to supply that good gift.

Dear Father, may we strive to develop that true love relationship with You, and thus be directed and guided by You to that most suitable mate. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
