READ : Exodus 20:8-10
For many years I can honestly say I attended church out of a sense of duty and a need to socialize with people much like myself. As I grew closer and closer to the Lord, however, and felt His presence as a real force in my life, those old reasons for church attendance were not important anymore.
Suddenly, I found this deep need and desire to take time out each week to sing, worship and adore this God who so lovingly cares for me on a daily basis.
For me, Sunday has become special, a day set apart from the rest of the week, a time to begin with worship and celebration, a day I purposely don’t fill with a lot of schedules or plans.
I can get a feel for why God gave us the commandment of keeping the Sabbath day holy and making it a day of rest. We need that spiritual renewal to survive our hectic pace during the week and to prepare us mentally for our spiritual journey in this earthly world.
God didn’t give us commandments in order to make our lives miserable or to infringe upon our life styles. He gave us commandments to obey so that we might live and live abundantly. God loves and cares for us so faithfully it is right that we give Him the praise and adoration of which He is so worthy.
Heavenly Father, may our hearts truly desire to worship and adore You in Your holy temple. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
