A Spiritual Uplift

In our Christian journey there are many times when we can become discouraged or depressed. Maybe circumstances occur causing us to question the presence of God in our lives. These are times when the devil tries to create doubts and fears in an attempt to sever our oneness with the Lord.

It’s at these times in my life that I’ve discovered a wonderful little exercise that truly works, taking me from despondency to total adoration of our Lord and Savior. When feeling overwhelmed with negative thoughts and emotions, simply find a little place of isolation and just bow before God and begin giving thanks. I usually begin by thanking Him for His tremendous love; such great love, in fact, that He died for me. What a Savior! As you then begin to reflect on many little areas in your life that are reasons for giving thanks, you will be surprised that what began as a few moments of reflection and gratitude can become a half-hour of praise for a multitude of blessings we just weren’t aware of or simply took for granted.

It’s amazing, the transformation that occurs in your mood once you begin this little spiritual exercise. The despondency dissipates and you become filled with a deep joy and inner peace at the realization of God’s great love and care for us. My Lord, what a Savior!

Father, may we ever be aware of Your great love for us no matter how dark our path might become. In Jesus’ name. Amen
