READ : Matthew 14:22-32
Our Scripture passage for today is such a beautiful lesson on the importance of keeping our focus on Christ. It reveals the essence of the power of Christ and true faith. Peter was surrounded by an impossible situation. However, as he focused his eyes upon the Lord and ignored his physical surroundings, he was brought forth over the waters. When he took his eyes off Jesus and became aware of his plight, he began to sink. How like Peter we are.
So, too, in our lives we are faced with insurmountable difficulties. We tend to observe situations in our lives with overwhelming defeat or attempt in our own feeble way to correct or alter our predicaments. With only our own strength we will surely sink. Doubting is simply forgetting our faith, taking our eyes off Jesus and being overcome by the storms of life.
By looking to Jesus in total faith and trusting in His guidance we focus away from the problems and difficulties and rely totally on Him to pave the way. In some instances, He dispels the storms in our lives. At other times, He does not. But He always gives us the strength to endure as long as we seek, knock and ask. We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us and called us according to His purpose!
Heavenly Father, keep our eyes ever fixed on Jesus so that the stormy waves of life will never wash over us. In His name. Amen.
