READ : 3 John 1:13-14
Thank God for letters and postcards and greeting cards, E-Mail and fax messages. Business could not be conducted and friendships would wither apart from such contact. But even more important than the phone or mail is the face-to-face contact: conversation laced with humor and tears, sharing of joys and concerns, handshakes and hugs. So John was eager to have “eyeball-to-eyeball” contact with his “dear friend Gaius.” God acted in similar fashion when He sent Jesus. He not only wrote us to say He loved us but He came in Jesus to demonstrate it. He not only gave commands to tell us how to live but in Jesus He gave an example. Proclamation is good…presence is better. “The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us” (John 1:14).
“I hope to see you soon,” wrote John, a sentiment shared by all good friends. Someday, maybe soon, we will all see our Creator. Almost 2000 years ago He came to us in Jesus; we will go to Him either at our death or when the Savior returns, whichever comes first. Are you ready? When your body is in the casket and your family and friends gather to pay their last respects, will you be hearing Christ’s words of welcome: “Well done, good and faithful servant”?
“Into my heart, come into my heart, Lord Jesus. Come in today; come in to stay; come into my heart, Lord Jesus.” (Henry D. Clarke)
