Superior in All

Ron Geschwendt

READ : Hebrews 1:1-4

The Book of Hebrews is fascinating. Its theme is simple. Jesus Christ is the final revelation of God to humankind, and He is superior to the angels, prophets and priests who lived before Him.

Spiritually Israel was led by the prophets, among whom were Moses, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Daniel and Amos. Jesus was born of a Jewish mother by a miraculous birth, and was a Himself a prophet. But He was greater than any prophet before Him. He revealed God the Father, and He entered this world in order to save it. He was the final and sufficient Prophet, Priest and King for His people.

There is a legend about an Irish king who disguised himself and went into the banquet hall of one of his barons. He was escorted to a lowly place at the feast. However, his brilliant conversation and nobility of manner quickly attracted attention. He was soon shown to a table of greater honor. Here one of the lords made the observation, “In truth, Sir, you speak like a king. If you are not a king, you deserve to be.” The king, then, removed his disguise and took his rightful place among his subjects.

During Christ’s life on earth there were those too blind to see His deity. They wrote Him off as a blasphemer and false prophet. But they were wrong. How do you see Christ?
