READ : Hebrews 2:1-9
“Listen to me.” We have heard those words often. How easily the mind wanders even while hearing simple directions for finding a house or solving a math problem. We tune others out, looking for solitude in our hectic world. Unfortunately, people do the same thing with their faith. Pushing Jesus Christ from their lives, they drift, neglecting His offer of salvation.
On March 5, 1994, Deputy Sheriff Lloyd Prescott was teaching a class for police officers in the Salt Lake City library. As he stepped into the hallway he noticed a gunman pushing eighteen hostages into the next room. Quickly, Prescott, who was dressed in plain clothes joined the group as the nineteenth hostage, followed them into the room and shut the door. When the gunman announced the order in which hostages would be executed, Prescott identified himself as a cop. Bedlam broke out and Prescott fatally shot the armed man in self-defense. The hostages were released without harm.
God came into our world dressed in the plain clothes of flesh. He became like one of us. There was no doubt that Christ was God because He performed signs and miracles. But He was also our brother, truly a man. This God-man freed us from the hostage of sin on the cross. So, listen up! This is Good News.
Our heavenly Father, thank You for sending Your Son into our world to set us free from the bondage of sin. In His name. Amen.
