READ : Hebrews 3:12-19
Sin is not a joke to God. It is a serious threat to a healthy relationship between Himself and humankind. God is holy and good. People are prone to sin and are innately selfish in character. As a result, a wedge is driven between people and God.
If there is any doubt as to the devastation of sin, look at what God did to the unbelieving Israelites on their journey to the land of promise. After all God had done for them, they failed to believe Canaan could be conquered. Consequently, all those 20 years and older died during the wilderness wanderings and never set foot in the land of promise. God takes unbelief very seriously. Too many think of God as a teddy bear, grandfather God who winks at the evil in people’s lives.
For eight years Sally had been the Romero family pet. At first she was only a foot long. Eventually she reached eleven-and-a- half feet and weighed eighty pounds. Then on July 20, 1993, Sally, a Burmese python, turned on 15-year-old Derek, strangling the teen-ager until he died of suffocation. Little sins may appear harmless, but they grow. Ignore sin, and it will eventually lead to death.
Christ’s offer of Himself on the cross proves how seriously God takes sin, and what it cost to make payment for our sin.
Father, I confess my sin to You. You alone are able to forgive. Accept me through Christ. Amen.
