READ : 1 Peter 2:1-8

Some people seem to have the idea that being saved is simply a matter of going to heaven when you die. That is a wonderful part of salvation, but it is not the Bible’s emphasis. It emphasizes spiritual growth throughout our life on earth. This is God’s goal for us, therefore it ought to be our goal. We need to grow in our faith. Someone has said that faith gets you to heaven, but strong faith gets heaven to you.

The essence of heaven is a perfect relationship to Christ. We can grow in our faith so that we have a stronger relationship to Christ here and now. We need to grow in love. We love God, we should love Him more. We are not only to love our neighbor, but we are to love our neighbor as much as we love ourselves. We need to grow in unselfishness.

How do we grow? By feeding on God’s Word. I hope you read the Bible passage before reading what I have written. The Bible is much more important than what I have to say about it. I hope you do not limit your Bible reading to the one passage we suggest each day. We also have material to help you read through the Bible from cover to cover in a year. Write and we will send it to you.

We need to “crave” (v. 2) the milk of the Word when we are young in the faith and the meat of the Word as we mature in the faith.

Father, as we read your Word each day, work in our hearts causing us to grow in faith and love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
