READ : 1 Peter 3:1-7
Charles Shedd, who has written practical material on marriage, said that the best thing a father can do for his child is to love his mother well. How true. Peter first of all says to husbands that they should be considerate. To be considerate is important in all our relationships, but especially that of husbands and wives. Are YOU considerate? As you deal with your spouse, do you consider his or her feelings, or do you only think about yourself?
Peter then tells husbands that they should treat their wives with respect. Do you respect your wife’s feelings? Is the communication between you such that you know what her feelings are? Marriage can be such a wonderful relationship but, sad to say, in many cases, even in Christian families, it is not. But it could be! How wonderful if this devotional would lead some couple to make significant improvements in their relationship. What is needed is consideration and respect on the part of both marriage partners.
When Peter says that the wife is weaker, he means in physical strength, which is true in most cases. How sad when husbands use their greater physical strength to physically abuse their wives. If that is true of you, ask God and your wife to forgive you. Husbands and wives should pray together. Are you doing that?
Father, use this meditation to lead us to improve our husband- wife relationship. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
