READ : 1 Peter 3:13-22
On this Mother’s Day, our passage points us to Christ. He is the one who can help mothers be what they need to be. Mothers (and all others), first dedicate your hearts to Christ, for verse 15 says, “In your hearts set apart Christ as Lord.” Let Christ be at the center of your life. Seek to surrender to Him completely. This is the best thing you can do for your children. The verse continues, “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give a reason for the hope that is in you.” As your children see your Christian life, they will ask questions. Study Scripture diligently, so that you can give them helpful answers.
Verse 16 speaks of “your good behavior in Christ.” It is so important that we set an example of godliness before our children. Do nothing which will hinder them from believing in Christ. Show them by your life what it means to be His follower. What a blessing for a child to grow up in a home where both parents serve Christ faithfully. What changes are needed in your home so that you can provide an atmosphere conducive to leading your children to Christ? Verse 18 reminds us that Christ died for our sins, verse 21 that He rose from the dead. Belief in the atoning death and resurrection of Jesus is the foundation for a life of godliness. Because of what He has done for us we are to live for Him.
Lord, make us a blessing to our children. In Jesus’ name.
