Rude, Crude and Impolite

READ : Philippians 4:4-13

There is in our society today a general rudeness or crudeness that raises its ugly head on a very regular basis. People are often impolite and lack the manners that are so basic to life. No subject seems to be off limits and surprisingly, the subjects that capture peoples’ interest are often sleazy and downright deviant.

Of course, the media has had a lot to do with this. Talk shows get better ratings when they parade people before the public who “tell all” about their abnormal behavior and immoral lifestyles. Language, too, has suffered. Words are used on television and especially the movies that ought of offend Christians and all decent human beings. Hollywood, of course, says it is simply being realistic about the way people live and talk. However, there is no doubt that by displaying filth and dirty language they are promoting it andcontributing to the acceptability of these low standards.

On the other hand, we have the welcome and refreshing words of the apostle Paul: “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable if anything is excellent or praiseworthy think about these things.” This is how we should think and live. When we do that, we will make a difference in the world.


Father, keep us close to You so that we may live God-glorifying lives which are true and noble. In Jesus Name. Amen.
