There is Hope for Even Moab

READ : Jeremiah 48:34-47

What is God’s final word? After “Moab shall be destroyed . . . as a people” (v. 42), the prophecy ends with, “Yet I will restore the fortunes of Moab in the latter days, says the Lord” (v. 47).

Who will restore the fortunes of Moab, and of Cuba, and Bosnia, and North Korea? Jeremiah is making the astounding claim that it is not the gods of Islam, the Buddha, Hinduism, Marxism, or secular humanism that shape history, but the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The Bible story tells us that in the fullness of time God, who revealed Himself to Moses as Yahweh, said to the principalities and powers “Enough.” And He who awakened faith in the hearts of first-century believers will awaken faith in the hearts of the most hostile people on earth.

He sent those believers out to: “Make disciples of all nations, …teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you…”(Matt. 28:19, 20). The promise still stands: “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the Lord, as the waters cover the sea.” (Hab. 2:14)

Lord, we stand on tiptoe, looking for, praying for and giving for Your great victory in Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.
