He Humbles the Proud

READ : Jeremiah 50:17-32

Who does this Jeremiah think he is? How dare he speak this way against the most brilliant, powerful and wealthy nation the world had ever known? Does he really think that his little insignificant country is so special that their God is going to save them and destroy mighty Babylon?

In the U.S.A. and Canada today, the mighty and powerful have pushed the church back into a private corner. Humanism has taken over our schools and universities. Crime runs rampant in our streets. The almighty dollar rules the land. Is there any hope? Will it ever really happen that “From ocean unto ocean our land shall own Thee, Lord?”

Jeremiah spoke this word from the Lord, “I am against you, O proud one, . . . for your day has come, the time when I will punish you” (v. 31).

There is more to the gospel than plucking a few brands from the burning. The apostle Paul says, “Then comes the end, when he delivers the KINGDOM to God the Father after destroying every rule and every authority and power” (1 Cor. 15:24). “The weapons of our warfare are not worldly but have divine power to destroy strongholds” (2 Cor. 10:4). Believe it! Live it!

Don’t let us get discouraged, Lord, when we see the apparent power of evil and error. We trust You. We really mean it when we pray “Thy Kingdom come.” In Jesus’ name. Amen.
