READ : James 1:19-27
My sister Judy and I live an hour apart so we often meet for lunch in a little town which is located halfway between. On this particular day, we decided to eat at a new restaurant.
“I’d like a hamburg.” “Sorry,” said the waitress. “We’re all out.” “Could I have a hot dog instead?” The waitress wrote it down on her pad and walked away. A few minutes later, she returned with a hot dog that was sticking out of a hamburg bun. Some things just don’t go together!
A kindergartner went to school wearing a pink ruffled dress trimmed with ribbons and lace over a pair of faded blue jeans. Attached to the yoke of the dress was a note which read, “I know they don’t go together nor was it my idea. [Signed] Mother.”
Some things just don’t go together.
Our Scripture tells us we are to listen to God’s Word and then obey it. They do go together.
Have you ever watched yourself on videotape and said, “Do I really act like that?” Who are we when no one is looking? Each day, we are given opportunities to be doers of God’s Word through our conduct and our conversation. The impact of God’s Word on our lives should be obvious to those we encounter. We are to get rid of moral filth and evil and live the righteous life that God desires.
Listening and obeying go together.
Lord, help me to be a reflection of Your Word. Amen.
