To overcome does not always mean that we get rid of the problem, but that we press on in spite of it. The first step to being an overcomer is to accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. This is the beginning of our new life in Christ. This is where our eternity with the Lord begins. Our struggles in this life are not eternal, but our life in Jesus Christ is. The best is yet to come.
When we are given problems, they often give us compassion, patience and tolerance toward others who are struggling. We were born to give something to life, not only to get something back from it. Sometimes sickness and troubles can make us feel useless, but we can press on because God gives us the strength we need. The battle is won only by taking hold of God’s Word, and holding tight to His promises. Whatever your trouble today, trust in God.
We did not choose Jesus, but He chose us (John 15:16). Because He chose us, He will help us to live our lives worthy of His name. We need to cling to His promises, especially when we have feelings of defeat and worthlessness. With our Lord we continue to grow in the knowledge of His love and thus we are given the patience to endure and be an overcomer. We share in His victory.
Dear Lord, You have overcome the world, so we look to You to be our “Overcomer.” Thank You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
