READ : Psalm 24:1-10
A commercial on TV depicted a Native-American Indian picking up garbage alongside a road. A car came speeding along and someone in the car was shown throwing out more garbage. The Indian’s eyes filled with tears. We need to be reminded that we are all stewards of the world God has created.
“In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. Now the earth was formless and empty . . . And God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light. . . . Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground’ (Gen. 1:1-3,26). God continued creating until He was finished. And God was pleased with what He had done (see v. 25). God has placed this good earth in our hands.
What are we doing to God’s beautiful earth and what can we do to improve it? Can we as individuals do anything significant to ease the environmental problems we face? No one can do it alone, but each of us can do his or her part. Recycling is one way to start. Find out all you can to help clean up God’s beautiful world so once again He will be pleased. The Bible tells us that we are responsible.
Dear Lord, are we disappointing You who have entrusted us to care for Your beautiful world? Show us what it is we can do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
