The Shepherd and the Lost Sheep

Grace Law

READ : Matthew 18:10-14
Psalm 23:1-6

The story of the lost sheep tells us how much God truly loves us. Psalm 23 tells how He, as our Shepherd, takes care of us and protects us. He leads the way through paths of righteousness and across the dark valleys. We need never be afraid for He is always with us, loving and guiding us every step of the way. After caring for us every step of the way, He will lead us to our eternal home with Him.

People, like sheep, are dependent upon the Shepherd’s care. Sheep are helpless without a shepherd. Many wild animals lurk, ready to pounce on them. People who stray away from the fold have many sins waiting to snare them, but the Lord wants to care for them and bring them back safely to His fold. He goes out to search for them.

There are far too many lost sheep in this world. They do not recognize the Savior’s voice because they do not know Him, so they wander further away. Jesus, our true Shepherd, gave His life for us, for our sins. He is searching and calling His lost sheep to come home. Do you recognize His voice? Respond by surrendering to His plan for your life.

Dear Lord, there are many lost sheep in this world who need You as their Shepherd. Use us to lead them to You. Work in their hearts as we witness, for only Your Spirit can change a heart. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
