READ : 2 Corinthians 4:1-18
There’s an old hymn written by the beloved author Fanny J. Crosby titled, “Never Give Up.” This is a hymn of comfort and especially so as I think of Fanny Crosby’s life. Even though she was blind she persevered and was able to live her life victoriously for Christ as her testimony in hymns and verse showed time and again. Check in your hymnal and find some of the other hymns she wrote.
In today’s scripture reading, these verses in Corinthians written by Paul express the theme Never Give Up. He begins by telling about God’s mercy in giving them work to do: preaching the good news of Christ. Then he tells that although trouble is all around them, they should never give up. This is God’s message to you today: “Never Give Up.”
As I read and study these verses, I wonder if this chapter gave Fanny Crosby the inspiration to write this hymn. Verse 18 expresses it so vividly “So we set our eyes not on what we see, but on what we cannot see. What we see will last only a short time, but what we cannot see will last forever” (Living Bible).
Even though Fanny Crosby was blind she had a lot more insight than many sighted people do. And now, before the throne of Christ, she sees Him with perfect vision!
Dear Lord, may we not be blind to Your teachings. Give us insight to keep going no matter what our circumstances. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
