Be On Your Guard

READ : Colossians 2:1-23

Even though Paul, the author of Colossians, did not know many people in the church at Colossae, he had a great concern for them. He learned from experience what it was like to walk out of darkness into God’s light. Now his desire for these people was that they too might share that love with each other. He wanted them to enjoy God’s riches, the full understanding of God’s love. And God desires to use Paul’s inspired writings to give us these blessings. God’s salvation far exceeds any riches we might obtain here on earth in any way. All earthly things will someday disappear, but God’s love lives forever. Paul yearned for these Christians to be firmly established in their faith, and not be swayed by any false doctrines. Today we also need to be on guard. Many false cults are trying to sneak their doctrines into our lives. A past issue of Modern Maturity magazine carried an article on cults. Its cover screamed the headlines: “CULTS FORGET THE KIDS, NOW THEY’RE AFTER YOU.” We need to guard against these seductive philosophies and false religions. Jesus Christ has full power over everything. Our true life is Jesus Christ alone. No other one should be worshiped, no matter what. The best defense against false teaching is solid biblical instruction.

Dear Lord, thank You for a sure future in You. Help us to be on guard always. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
