Summing It All Up

Grace Law

READ : Colossians 3:1-25

Living a life for Christ means involving Him in every aspect of what we do. We need to realize that whatever we do should be done in a Christlike manner. “Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things” (v. 2), writes Paul. Get rid of your earthly nature (the way we did things before we became Christians). Paul provides a valuable set of rules and instructions. Can we adhere to them? If we continue reading in Colossians, we are instructed on how to act as God’s chosen people. We must have compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. We need to bear with each other and always forgive others as the Lord forgives. And above all we need to have love, peace and His wisdom, singing hymns with gratitude in our hearts to God. This letter also gives advice for husbands and wives; for children, fathers and slaves. The advice for slaves can provide a helpful way of doing whatever work we have to do, without goofing off on the job. Summing it all up: “And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him” (v. 17).

Dear Lord, help us to live our lives worthy of Your love. Help us to apply Your teachings to every aspect of our lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen
