READ : Luke 11:1-13
The words that jumped out at me as I read the story of the friend at midnight are, “yet because of the man’s persistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs.” Can you believe your ears? “Because of the man’s persistence he will get up and give him as much as he needs.” Why didn’t one of the disciples (surely Peter would have dared do it) challenge Jesus? “Wait a minute, Jesus, You misspoke yourself. I’m sure You meant to say, `And because he is a friend, not because of his persistence, he got up and gave him as much as needed.’ But no such objection was raised. The wording stands, “yet because of the man’s persistence.”
Jesus wants us to know that when we come to God with a prayer petition, we are to come fervently, persistently and with great perseverance. Prayer is not child’s play. It’s serious, it’s powerful, it’s mind boggling. You don’t use it like a magic wand. You are entering into the presence of God. Bring your greatest needs and lay them before Him day after day, week after week, year after year. Leave the timing up to Him. He’s your heavenly Father. He loves you! He hears you! Keep on keeping on!
Dear God, help me to be faithfully persistent in my prayer requests to You. I believe, help my unbelief. In the wonderful name of Jesus. Amen.
