Consecrate Everything by Prayer

Helen Brownson

READ : 1 Timothy 4:1-9

“Everything created by God is good and nothing is to be rejected, provided it is received with thanksgiving, for it is sanctified by the God’s Word and by prayer” (vv. 4,5).

Paul is writing to his “son in the faith,” and encouraging him to receive everything God has made with thanksgiving; then, by prayer we may consecrate (make holy, sanctify) those very things.

Everything? Exotic food? Sex? Sporting events? Dogs and cats? Beaches and trees? “Yes!” affirms Paul. What a far-reaching thought!

This must mean that I can offer my new car, my new baby, my home, my garden, my spouse, our possessions, our work, our play, and even our vacations, to God; truly EVERYTHING…. To “consecrate” means to set apart, and that is our privilege for EVERY part of our lives.

Why not begin to think of consecrating everything in our lives to God by prayer? We can plan a house dedication, consecrate our children, give thanks for our food, give back to God all He has given to us, and most of all offer our own bodies as living sacrifices.

What a blessing that because of Christ’s atonement, all that we offer now becomes holy!

Thank You, Lord, that You have given us everything to enjoy. We offer it all to you. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
