READ : Luke 11:1-8
“I tell you, even though he will not get up and give him anything because he is his friend, at least because of his persistence he will get up and give him whatever he needs” (v. 8).
God encourages us to keep on praying despite the lack of an immediate answer. He will respond to the needs of His children, and He promises to be found by those who seek Him.
“Our Lord does not forbid persistence, but mindlessness. He doesn’t want us reciting words without thought, prayers without heart. To mumble the same words a hundred times as though they were like a safe combination that’s heaping up empty phrases. But to ask for something over and over again because our burdened hearts cry out for it that’s importunity, or persistence real prayer” (Brownson, William C., Courage to Pray, p. 151).
Does our continued praying truly have an effect? The Lord’s answer is Yes! Abraham, Moses, Daniel, the Syro-phoenician woman, and many other believers in Scripture testify to this. And saints in all ages of the Church agree. When we persevere in prayer, we learn that God is always faithful. “Those who trust Him wholly, find Him wholly true.”
Dear God, forgive us that we do not persist in prayer. Help us to persist as those who never give up and believe in a loving Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
