READ : Psalm 13:1-6
David asks the Lord, “How long?” Most of us have asked that question many times. Lord, how long will it be until You answer my prayer? The symbolic book of Revelation says that even people in heaven ask that question. “I saw under the altar the souls of those who had been slain because of the word of God . . .They called out in a loud voice, ‘How long, Sovereign Lord . . . until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?’” (Revelation 6:9b- 10). The answer is “wait a little longer.”
God has His own timetable. His timing is perfect. Having cried out in his very human impatience, David pauses and then says, “But I trust in your unfailing love . . . I will sing to the Lord, for he has been good to me” (vv. 5-6).
I don’t understand God’s plan, but trusting in Him, I know it is good. I often cannot see that in all things God is working for good for His people as He has promised, but knowing Him, I know it is true. Are you crying out in the midst of some difficulty, “How long, Lord, before you help me?” That’s all right. David had the same question. Even the perfect people in heaven have that question. It is natural to wonder how long the problem will continue. But no matter how long it lasts, maintain the faith of David.
God of unfailing love, help us to believe that Your timetable is perfect. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
