READ : Luke 19:28-44
Believe it or not, the most notable feature of the Dominus Flevit Church is the live chicken running in the sanctuary. It serves as a living object lesson of Jesus’ cry in Matthew 23:37, “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem … How often would I have gathered your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings…!” Dominus Flevit (the Lord wept) Church, however, gets its name from the scene in Luke as Jesus descends the Mount of Olives to Jerusalem. The disciples are spreading their cloaks, the crowds are calling Hosanna, but Luke records that Jesus is weeping. His heart is broken as He looks upon Jerusalem. He knows that the cheers will turn to jeers, the hosannas to hatred.
“Would even today you knew the things that make for peace!” Jesus is still weeping for the world today. How He longs to gather us under His wings. How great is His desire that we might shout Hosanna in heaven with the angels. How His heart breaks when we try and try to put the pieces of our broken lives together without Him.
There is only one thing that can bring you peace. That is Jesus Himself. His arms are open to receive you. Don’t reject His love. Come to Him and turn weeping into joy.
Discuss: Do I have peace with God? (Romans 5:1)
Lord, grant me peace. Amen.
