Worthless in His Eyes

John DeJong

READ : Job 1:6-12

Scripture tells us many things about our greatest enemy. He is the great communicator, the father of lies, the tempter, and much more. What motivates Satan? What is Satan trying to prove more than anything? He wants to prove one thing more than anything else… that everyone of us is worthless. That is what he is trying to prove about Job. At some point, with enough affliction, suffering and accusations from former friends, Satan believes he will prove his convictions true.

In Luke 22:31 you see the same determination. Satan is intent on proving the same thing about Peter. Jesus says to Peter, “Satan has demanded the right to test each one of you, as a farmer does when he separates wheat from the husks” (cev). In Satan’s opinion we are all chaff worthless, impermanent, good for nothing. From Genesis to Revelation, from the beginning of the age to its end, he is out to prove someone worthless. Are you his current victim? How do you feel about yourself? You are probably believing a lie!

Listen to God instead. He has no doubts about Job. He lets Satan do what he will, knowing that Job will not quit. God wants to affirm your value also.

Lord, sometimes we feel so worthless. Remind us it’s Satan’s lie. Help us give honest affirmation and receive the same with graciousness. Help us hear Your affirming words. In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
