In the book of Revelation, we have come to the beginning of the end. In chapter 5, the Lamb (Jesus) took the “scroll” from the One on the throne. That scroll, God’s decrees for the history of the world and the coming of His kingdom, was sealed with seven seals. The Lamb has opened those seals, but when the seventh, final seal was opened it produced seven “trumpets.” Now the final trumpet produces seven “bowls” of God’s wrath. They are poured out in chapter 16, and when emptied, the “end” comes.
Before that takes place, however, we are given a glimpse of the coming “harvest” of the earth. First is the harvest of the righteous as the One “like a son of man” (Jesus) swings His sickle over the earth, gathering His people together. He “gathers the wheat into His barn,” just as John the Baptist had said He would. The righteous appear in chapter 15 victoriously singing praises to God. “Who will not fear You, O Lord, and bring glory to Your Name?” they sing.
A second harvest also takes place as the angel swings his sickle over the earth, gathering the wicked into the winepress of God’s wrath to be trampled.
Dear reader, there is a harvest coming! For those who reject the Lamb, it will be a horrible time of defeat. But for those who have put their trust in Jesus, the Lamb, it will be one of great victory. Make sure you are ready for the harvest!
O Lord of the harvest, we put our trust in You. Amen.
