READ : Joshua 23:6-16
The true test of Joshua’s commitment to God is reflected in his humility as he addressed Israel. Looking back over the tremendous victories, how easy it would have been to exalt himself. Twelve times in chapter 23 Joshua referred to the “Lord your God” when reviewing the successes of Israel. Joshua demonstrated who was first in his own life. He was giving honor and glory to God.
It is often easy to begin our Christian life giving glory to God. But as we grow older and as our accomplishments increase, our natural tendency is to forget the source of our strength. How easy to exalt and honor ourselves. Like Joshua, we must realize that God uses our talents and our skills.
Our accomplishments are not wrong in themselves, but a Christian who puts God first in his life will always reflect with honesty and true humility that it is God who is responsible for all we are and have. The Christian who has a correct perspective on God’s power and grace can only agree with the apostle Paul, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen” (Ephesians 3:20).
O Lord our God, we give You the glory for all You have done. We desire to love and serve You through Jesus Christ. Amen.
