Metal lunch boxes sporting pictures of Barbie or Ninja Turtles are on the way to becoming antique collectibles. They are being replaced by plastic boxes or insulated nylon bags. The lunch container is an important back-to-school purchase because the student needs food to make it through an active school day.

If you are in God’s school of life, learning tough lessons, taking hard tests, you may feel severely depleted. Your energy may be gone; you may feel you cannot go on. Jesus invites all those being taught by God to come to Him, the Bread of Life. “Everyone who listens to the Father and learns from him comes to me…. I am the living bread that came down from heaven. If a man eats of this bread, he will live forever” (vv. 45b, 51a). Jesus offers to revitalize you and sustain you so you can endure the test you are taking. He will nourish you with His Word so you can pass the test and live forever.

Do you take spiritual lunch breaks? Jesus comes to us as we read the Bible and lift our hearts to Him in prayer. Every morning, “pack” an encouraging Bible verse, take it with you and “chew on it” and receive strength throughout the day.

Dear Jesus, please give me strength for my lessons. Sustain me with Your Word. Cause me to grow as I feed my soul on it. Amen.
