Take-Home Test

READ : 2 Corinthians 13:1-10

Paul’s teacher credentials were under attack. False apostles were undermining his authority by casting doubt on his character and qualifications. His students, the Corinthians, were wavering and some were disloyal. He dealt with this by giving them a take-home test. “Don’t look at me,” he said. “Look at yourselves. If I have taught you the truth and you have believed, you will find evidence that Christ Jesus is in you. And if He is in you, you will do what is right not to prove I am a good teacher but because you will want to please Him.”

Pastors and preachers are often under attack. Sometimes because of personality conflicts their teaching is undermined. Believers become confused. The bond of unity and peace in Christ Jesus is broken. It is time for the take-home test.

In spite of personality traits, have you heard the Word of God from this person? Has the Spirit moved hearts to repentance and faith in Christ Jesus? Have you been challenged to recognize wrong and to do what is right? Have you been comforted and built up in your faith? Are you closer to God because of this ministry? If you answer yes to these questions, you have passed the test and will be loving and forgiving as Christ was. And your teacher will be reaffirmed in the work of God.

Dear God, examine our hearts. Help us to do what is right. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
