Praying for Everyone

Lee DeYoung

READ : 1 Timothy 2:1-8

What inspired counsel Paul offers to his “true son in the faith” (1 Tim. 1:2)! In this rich passage from his first letter to Timothy, Paul urges prayer for all people in general especially those in positions of authority (at that time, most rulers were pagans who persecuted believers). Prayers should include requests for avoiding evil and achieving good, intercession for others, and thanksgiving for mercies received.

Paul reveals that the design of Christianity is to promote prayer. As Jesus’ disciples we must be praying people! Since Christ gave Himself as a ransom for all peoples, He calls us to intercede on behalf of every tribe and nation.

Pray today for India’s Bhil, Munda-Santal, Gond, and Lambadi peoples. While their religious traditions are animistic and Hindu, many Lambadi (Gypsies who are also called Banjaras) have begun turning to Christ. Hundreds of listeners are responding to Words of HOPE’s Banjara broadcasts over Trans World Radio in neighboring Sri Lanka. Even some non-Christian priests have demonstrated openness to the gospel of Jesus Christ. Churches are springing up.

Beseech the Lord to inspire them as you “lift up holy hands in prayer” for these hard-to-reach Indo-Iranian peoples. He wants all to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth (v. 4).

Loving Lord, establish strong, vital churches among the Lambadi so that they might reach others in Jesus’ name. Amen.
