Shout it from the Mountain Top

Lee DeYoung

READ : Isaiah 40:3-9

In his oratorio “Messiah” George Frederick Handel combines Isaiah’s prophetic words from today’s Scripture with unforgettable music. Handel not only underscores the magnificent truth of Isaiah’s vision but provides us with a powerful foretaste of what we’ll experience when Christ returns: “And the glory of the Lord will be revealed and all mankind together will see it” (v. 5). Every tribe, tongue, nation, and people will be represented on that triumphant day!

This divine revelation is so wonderful that Isaiah exclaims: “You who bring good tidings to Zion, go up on a high mountain . . . lift up your voice with a shout, lift it up, do not be afraid; say to the towns of Judah, ‘Here is your God!’” (v. 9). News this glorious should not be held back. It must be proclaimed publicly and boldly to everyone everywhere.

Pray today that these good tidings may reach the ears and transform the hearts of the Sindhi and Punjabi peoples (of Pakistan and India), the Nepali (of Nepal, India, Bhutan), and the Newari (Nepal). Some gospel resources are currently available in the languages of each of these groups. The growth of the church has been especially evident in the kingdom of Nepal where Christians were officially persecuted until the early 1990’s. Since then, God has used church planters, gospel broadcasts, the Jesus film, etc. to draw over 100,000 to Himself.

May You be exalted, Lord Jesus, among all peoples. Amen.
