Shout for Joy to the LOrd

Lee DeYoung

READ : Psalm 98:1-9

It is difficult to imagine music too exuberant to accompany this magnificent psalm: “Shout for joy to the Lord, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music” (v. 4). The singers should include every nation in the world because: “All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God” (v. 3). The author of that blessed salvation is the Lord Himself: “For he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him” (v. 1). Even all creation itself must join the glad song: “Let the sea resound, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it” (v. 7).

On this, our third day of intercession for the peoples of Sahel Africa, pray for the Soninke (of Mali, Senegal, and Cote d’Ivoire), the Susu (of Guinea and Sierra Leone), the Dioula (of Cote d’Ivoire and Burkina Faso), and West Africa’s Malinke people. Islam and animism are practiced within each group.

The Malinke and Soninke populations are scattered throughout several West African countries. Each group has been influential in spreading Islam to its various neighbors. Pray for spiritual break- throughs which will transform many to become influential heralds of the salvation which comes only through faith in Christ. May others add their voices: “With trumpets and the blast of the ram’s horn shout for joy before the Lord, the King” (v. 6).

Lord, speed the day when many more worship You. Amen.
