He Went Looking

Isaiah 53:6

We were doing some trimming in the back yard. As Dad was cutting a long dangling branch he questioned, “Where’s Shadow?” Our black dog was always underfoot whenever anyone worked outdoors. But this time she was nowhere to be seen. After looking around, we realized that she had escaped through a loose board in the fence. We dropped our work and went out looking for Shadow. We all searched in a different direction, Dad on a bike, Mom on foot, and me in my wheelchair. Mom finally found her and brought her back to the safety of our yard.

While I was riding around calling out Shadow’s name, Isaiah 53:6 kept going through my mind. “We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.” Our sinful nature causes us to leave our caring, loving heavenly Father and explore the temptations and the sins of this world. God went looking for each of us by sending Jesus to rescue us from our iniquities.

Jesus told a parable of a shepherd who left his ninety-nine other sheep and went looking for that one sheep who was lost. Our Savior is the good shepherd (John 10:11). He came from heaven to look for us and bring us back to the Father. Join me in giving praise to the God Who went looking for us—the curious lambs of His flock.

Father, thank You that when we were lost in our sins, You sent Your Son Jesus to bring us back to You. In His name. Amen.
