Give Thanks, Always?

Give thanks, always? Today, all across America, people are gathering to give thanks to Almighty God for every blessing they have received. But being thank ful is not just reserved for the Thanksgiving holiday. It should be our lifestyle 365 days a year. The apostle Paul wrote that we should “give thanks in all circumstances.” It is easy to give thanks when life is going well, but it is downright hard to be thankful when a boss hands a family member a pink slip, when you have to spend a lifetime dealing with a disability, or when ___________ (insert your own trial).

I always try to be thankful, but there are days when I am discontented with life. Then I must remember that God is working for good in every situation. I am not grateful for my disability, but I am thankful for how God is using that disability for His purpose. After I wrote for Words of HOPE in 1995 and shared about my life, I received an overwhelming number of responses to my writing. Each letter reminds me of how God turns something that I am not grateful for into something for which I can give thanks.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving. Be thankful throughout the year. We have a God who can turn any circumstance into something for which we can be grateful.

Lord, on this Thanksgiving Day, we are so grateful for all the blessings You give us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
