Today I Learned

Proverbs 24:32

When I was in grade school, one of my teachers set up an activity called “Today I Learned.” Every day before we went home, she made us come up with something we learned during that day. We wrote what we learned on a two-by-three-inch piece of construction paper. After we wrote it, she put the slips up on the wall. The goal was to get enough papers to circle the room by the end of the school year. Sometimes it was difficult to come up with what I learned every day. But by the end of the year, it was great to see those various colored papers circling the room.

That’s how I feel when I look back over these thirty devotionals. They are like those “Today I Learned” slips all over the classroom. These devotionals represent what I have learned from the Word of God. In Proverbs 24:32 it says, “I applied my heart to what I observed and learned a lesson from what I saw.” That is what I tried to do, apply God’s Word to daily life, whether it was rafting down the river, on horseback, or just from what I observed.

I plan to keep on writing “Today I Learned” from what I observe and experience, and will continue to apply it to God’s Word. Will you join me in writing down life’s “learnings”? May we have a lifetime of learning from God to circle our hearts and minds.

Father, help us to keep on learning and growing in knowledge of You. May we apply our hearts to what we observe and learn a lesson from what we see. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
